I am disappointed that I am a potter/clay artist and living in Colorado and our paths have not yet intersected. I am hoping that through you book I will meet you and your work. I believe in the afterlife and that you are in the heavens doing what, here, was considered controversial. Happy Trails, my friend. Thanks a lot...

Won a lottery years ago and I bought a Soldner wheel. Love working with clay but life happened. I divorced the husband, kept the wheel and learning to and loving throwing clay. Browsing around and found this amazing site and I can actually thank you for a great wheel to THE Paul Soldner.

I met Paul in 1999 at his home in CA. It was Superbowl Sunday and Paul, Char, Mike Duckworth and I sat and watched the game on Paul's 13 inch portable. He made some delicious Guacamole and that was the beginning of our friendship. Due to a stroke in Dec of 2010 I am not able to drive so sadly I was not able to attend services for Paul. I am so lucky to have known him. I often remember the wonderful times, and the great love of clay we both shared.

Sometime about 1979 or..many years ago, when I was a student, I could not afford workshops. My ceramic teacher got me in to a workshop as a 'go for' for Paul at a workshop he did at Fresno City College. Even tho I had to run around getting water, picking up stuff and bringing clay and what not to Paul, I was allowed to sit in on the workshop. What I remember the most was how unassuming and down to earth Paul was. It was very memorable and I am so glad to have been able to be a small part of that weekend many many years ago.

Paul gave workshops and influenced students for decades. He built the best equipment for potters. His work was always evolving; he made beautiful pottery. He left a great legacy behind, in that he inspired others to experiment as he did in his art. He will be missed by many.

Paul's name came up a couple of times tonight at a gathering at the Craft in America Study Center in Los Angeles. Toasts were made and smiles exchanged as we talked about his wonderful hot tubs! :)

Sometimes it takes a while for news to reach out and on this March, 2011 day I focus my thoughts on our friendship in 1966 and 1967 when I was teaching at DU and you mentored me in my introduction to kiln building and raku. Our last meeting in early early 1967 when I got Val Cushing out to judge the the Denver museum's Own Your Own exhibition and I had a blowout party at our faculty house, prior to my departure to my first post abroad with the UN... The next 25 years I shared what I learned from our work building the kilns in Boulder. Those skills i learned from you were used to replicate the clay and kiln building throughout the world.
Adios amigo Paul. Malcolm
